Everyday activities we take for granted are sometimes a chore for seniors. Something as seemingly simple as going to the store, running errands, or going to the driving range can be out of the question.
As their children, we are apprehensive about admitting our parents are slowing down and hesitant about hiring someone to help with them. We often think, “They are my parents, it’s my job to take care of them,” but very few of us are trained caregivers. While the rest of us are trying to be a child and a caregiver simultaneously, and we don’t do either effectively, meaning the senior misses out on activities that would have improved their quality of life.
While younger people can run to the market and be back in 30 minutes, a senior may need to plan their entire day around such a chore. Dwell at Home wants to help make those tasks and errands easier.
Your dad may want to golf but can’t drive a car. You would like to drive him but have other obligations. Instead of feeling guilty, get a caregiver who also loves golf to take your dad. Your dad will have fun, the caregiver will get to play golf with him, and your dad has a new friend. You have just improved your dad’s quality of life, while still taking care of your other commitments.
Your mom’s license may have been revoked for medical reasons. She’s still a vibrant person, she just can’t drive. In a few clicks on the Dwell at Home app, she can find a caregiver to take her shopping, have a manicure, and eat lunch. Your mom and her caregiver both have a great day, and you are able to focus on your own responsibilities, knowing she is getting the chance to do the things that bring her joy.
At Dwell at Home, we believe it is the caregiver’s job to give you your time back and let you be the son or daughter instead of the caregiver.
